A continental climate (very cold in winter, hot in summer and frosts in spring) combined with marly soils forge the unique character of Chablis wines. Around 3,500 hectares (including 856 ha of Premiers and Grands Crus) are planted 100% with Chardonnay. Chablis Premiers Crus are produced in 40 different localities.
